Rivalry Renewed
David Stern has a grin etched from cheek to cheek right about now. How could he possibly be more pleased with the way things have turned out for his NBA. After Boston failed to get the franchise changing pick of either Oden or Durant, with the legendary Lakers about to lose their superstar, and the Knicks being just plain embarrassing, things were looking pretty grim for the association’s largest markets, but things are turning right around.
Boston pulled off a couple impressive trades to land two stars, and then proceeded to add depth with a mix of exuberant youth and seasoned veterans, yielding one of the better regular season records ever. The Lakers, on the other hand, improved internally with developing youth and added the steal of the season, Paul Gasol, to form perhaps the most well rounded team in years. And here they are, head to head in the Finals for the 11th time, two teams that have won 30 of the 61 NBA titles ever handed out. Stern is pleased.
