Cheap Shot

Whether Horry intentionally meant to injure David West is perhaps debatable, perhaps, but it is overwhelmingly evident that Horry intended to hit West hard, covertly, and in an area of West’s body that has been noted to be a sore spot. Though no flagrant foul was called, Cheap Shot Bob needs a suspension. I’m not saying the foul should be upgraded to flagrant, however, he should get hit with a hefty fine and suspension due to some sort of sportsmanship violation. Stern cannot allow the soon to be retiree to hit young talents like West. It’s bad for the game, it’s bad for careers yet to be fully realized, it’s bad for marketability. I’ve seen a lot of hard fouls this year, some nasty flagrants that could’ve caused serious injuries, but most of them resembled basketball plays. When things went over the line it was because of emotional charge, overreaction, physicality being amped up a bit much, frustration, and all that, but the line was crossed for all to see. A player sees a player burning his team with easy layups, so he hits him. That’s not a good thing, but it is to send a message, unambiguous and a bit coarse, but that’s how it is. Horry does his dirtiness slyly. He wants to hurt people, but then throw up his hands like it’s all a big misunderstanding. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth that an overzealous foul doesn’t. Horry’s time is up. He’s a bum hanging on for an extra ring, some playoff records, another paycheck. Let players that actually play in the regular season play in the playoffs, not some bum that now comes in to land hits instead of hit shoots.
