D’Antoni Joins Knicks
Mike D’Antoni, the brilliant architect behind the league’s most thrilling offenses, has accepted a 4 year deal for 24 million dollars from the New York Knicks. The Knicks are coming off of a 23 win season, featuring a sexual harassment settlement, dysfunctional locker room, and numerous other black eyes, which have sullied the once highly esteemed Knicks franchise. D’Antoni has become one of the highest paid coaches in the league, and has been tasked with transforming the Knicks into a winning team, and also very importantly, a likable team.
The Knicks seem to lack the personnel to run a D’Antoni style offense, however, D’Antoni has been successful with using players out of position, so I wouldn’t even fathom a guess at what his rotation may look like, especially since we could see a lot of wheeling and dealing over the summer.
The Suns are a ship with a captain at this point, and they could face a total philosophical change if Kerr opts to get a defensive minded coach (coaches are usually replaced with their opposites). I hope for the sake of basketball that the Suns are still entertaining next year, that their offensive spark isn’t extinguished, that they win by dropping 3s and hitting shots early in the shot clock, but it is looking as if it might be otherwise.
