Chicago Wins Draft, No Bull
The Chicago Bulls won the draft lottery Tuesday, surely infusing an already talented team with a future All Star. In an almost unfair turn of events, the 9th seeded team in the East walks away with a franchise altering pick. They will undoubtedly pick either Beasley or Rose, and leave the Miami Heat with the other. The Minnesota Timberwolves are to pick third, where the choices become a little less like no brainers, but the talent goes deep in the draft, so few will go home with at least a great prospect.
The Bulls would’ve been a playoff team this year if not for miserable coaching all year long. The talent is there and will only become that much better next year. If they can find a good coach, which will be much easier with the promise of coaching either Rose or Beasley, they could become a major threat in the East. They will have to decide how much they want to offer Gordon and Deng, who are up for new contracts, and decide what direction they want to go in philosophically. It’s possible that Deng and Gordon will be willing to accept lower offers since the value of their talent might decrease with the new addition, or they could see a future with less touches on the offensive end and jump ship.
